National Reconciliation Week

Our Local Gumbaynggirr People

This week we have been recognising the importance of reconciliation week. We have been having discussions with the children about our local Gumbaynggirr people and their deep connection to the land. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture at Brayside and ensure that our children have an awareness of the culture of the traditional landowners of our land.

The children continued to learn about the importance of bush tucker as a food source. We tasted some bush tucker and planted a Davidson Plum tree so we can have more bush tucker growing in our garden. We also read books such as “My Island Home” by Neil Murray to highlight how precious this shared land is and how we should respect and care for it.
Together we are developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences
