As an extension of our nature play, we have been exploring fire as an element in our outdoor environment. The rationale for this is due to human connection to fire as an evolutionary experience. With the children we experienced fire as a cooking tool, a light source, a heat source and an inspiration for creativity and imagination.
As a natural element that can create or destroy, fire teaches children about managing and self assessment of risk.
We will continue to research fire, its connection to indigenous perspectives and our lives.
