As part of our focus on child safety in our program we always include visits from our community helpers. It is important for children to be able to determine who are safe people that can help us in our community. We were grateful to have Coffs Harbour Fire Brigade visit us to support children’s learning and agency about fire safety. The children learned about how fire brigade members might look different in emergency situations and how we can keep ourselves safe in a fire. Following on from our visit from the Fire Emergency Service we continued our conversations about fire safety in the home and what we need to do to be safe such as having smoke detectors and a fire evacuation plan. We practiced “Get Down Low and Go, Go, Go” and “Stop , drop and roll” so that the children could practice fire safety techniques and share them with their families.
